How long will my appointment take?
The length of time you will need depends on the type of HealthCheck that you have booked. When you make your appointment we will send you an itinerary.

Is this HealthCheck covered by my health fund?
HealthCheck is a screening procedure and the level of cover varies between funds, and also depends on your level of coverage. You will need to check this with your health fund provider.

Is HealthCheck covered by medicare?
Medicare offers a rebate of $100 for people aged between 45 and 50, where a cardiovascular disease indicator is found as a result of your HealthCheck.

How do I collect my Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) sample?
Samples must be collected from three consecutive bowel movements or three bowel movements closely spaced in time.

  • Do not collect samples during, or until 3 days after menstrual period, bleeding or haemorrhoids, constipation bleeding, and urinary bleeding
  • Do not consume the following drugs, vitamins and foods
    - Avoid seven days prior to and during test period: aspirin or other non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs
    - Avoid 72 hours prior to and during test period: Vitamin C in excess of 250mg per day; i.e. citrus fruits and juices and iron supplements which contain quantities of Vitamin C in excess of 250 mg per day
  • Eat a well balanced diet including fibre such as bran cereals, fruit and vegetables
  • Collected samples can be stored at room temperature (15 - 30C), but must be returned to the physician or laboratory immediately after collection of last specimen.
  • All specimens must be tested within 4 days after collection.

Specimen Collection

  1. Unscrew the cap of the collection tube
  2. Randomly insert the stick of the cap into the faecal specimen into at least 5 different sites. Use tissues or scraper to remove extra specimen, because too much specimen may cause false positive results
  3. Screw on and tighten the cap into the collection tube
  4. Shake the tube vigorously to mix the specimen

For most accurate results speciments should be collected using a clean, dry container.

Will my employer be sent a copy of my Healthcheck report?
No, details of your HealthCheck are entirely confidential.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you do not require a referral for a HealthCheck.

Who can have a HealthCheck?
Anybody can have a HealthCheck.

How much does it cost?
The cost of a HealthCheck depends on the type of HealthCheck you book; please call us on 03 9426 8888 for further information and advice.

What are the cancellation/rescheduling fees?
The cancellation/rescheduling fees are as follows:
1 day = 100%
2-5 days = 75%
6-10 days = 50%

Where do I go for Pathology collection?
You can go to any Melbourne Pathology provider. Please click here to find your nearest Melbourne Pathology location. If you wish to use an alternative supplier, please call HealthCheck reception on 03 9426 8888 for a referral.

Where do I go for Radiology?
Radiology is provided by Symbion at Epworth Richmond. Your schedule of appointments will be sent to you after making a booking. Please follow all instructions provided.

What happens on the day of my HealthCheck?
Upon arrival you will be directed to the changing rooms, and asked to change into clothes which are suitable for exercise.

You will then be seen by your nurse who will test your vision, hearing and fitness. You will then have a short break during which you are welcome to help yourself to our complimentary selection of tea, coffee, juice and sandwiches.

Your doctor will then discuss your overall well-being and test results. Depending on the type of HealthCheck you are having you will be referred to have more tests and a follow up consultation. Advice will be given about managing potential health problems, and discussing all tests results. At the end of your consultation you will receive a personalised report.

How often should I have a HealthCheck?
This depends on your age and the state of your health. Our doctors will provide a recommendation.

What if I forget some of the information I am told at my HealthCheck?
You will be sent a full report that includes your results and all of the doctor's findings and recommendations for your records.
