Orthopaedic trauma rehabilitation at Epworth Rehabilitation provides comprehensive programs for both in-patients and out-patients.
Rehabilitation programs are offered to patients who have sustained traumatic injuries involving orthopaedics, minor brain injuries, complex wounds and burns. These injuries are often sustained in motor vehicle or work accidents.
A rehabilitation program will be specifically designed to meet individual needs. Staff in orthopaedic trauma work as an interdisciplinary team; skilled to encourage, support, guide and direct patients towards independence.
The rehabilitation team continually works with patients toward planning for changing rehabilitation and discharge needs. The team consists of the following staff skilled in rehabilitation and trauma management:
- Specialist rehabilitation consultants to manage medical care with a rehabilitation registrar
- Medical staff to liaise closely with doctors and surgeons from acute treating hospitals to ensure all medical needs are assessed and treated. Should the need arise, acute medical services are readily available at Epworth Richmond and Epworth Eastern
- Nurses
- Physiotherapists
- Occupational therapists
- Social workers
- Psychologists and
- Dietitians.
Our aim is to help patients make as complete a recovery from their injuries as possible and assist them to resume former work, family, social and recreational activities.
